The Adirondack Region is one of the most beautiful areas of the United States with stunning natural scenery combined with a vibrant outdoors culture including hiking and skiing. Most famously the region is host to Lake Placid, home of the 1980 Winter Olympics, which the area still pays homage to with museums and access to the sites of some of the events.
Fall is a beautiful time to visit and we spent our visit at the lovely Whiteface Lodge. The lodge has a glorious location with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. It has the authentic look and feel of a rustic cabin in the woods (although somewhat larger), with high quality finishes and décor. The rooms are large and spacious but still maintain a feeling of somewhere that you want to cozy up and enjoy a hot cocoa in front of the fire. Onsite there are plenty of activities to keep you busy including a cinema, bowling lanes, games room, swimming pools, and even an ice skating rink (depending on the time of year). You could easily spend your whole stay here and have an amazing time.
However, as mentioned, one of the best features of the lodge is its location. My absolute must do in this area is to take a drive up the Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway and continue on foot to the top. The views on the drive are breathtaking and the views from the top are even better. You can also hike numerous routes around the mountain as well as taking the gondola. Ultimately, it is just an amazing place to feel that bit closer to nature and leave some of the stresses of everyday life behind.
Food here is amazing! The Kanu Dining room at Whiteface Lodge is top draw. The star of our meal here was the halibut. In all honesty, I am super picky when it comes to fish, but this was amazing. They do update the menu depending on the season so everything fits the vibe perfectly and tastes fresh.
I can only imagine how amazing this place is with some snow on the ground! We got to experience it with the leaves gently changing color and those beautiful first days of fall and we can't wait to go back and see what it is like during all the other seasons!
